The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Cancer
Center’s mission is to provide ideal multidisciplinary cancer care while
partnering caring with rigorous research in cancer
prevention, diagnosis,
treatment, and palliative care.
Staffed by a team of oncologists
and oncology
nurses in medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery from the medical
school who work closely with radiation oncologists at the Johnson City Medical Center,
the ETSU Cancer Center is a partnership between Mountain States Health Alliance and
the East Tennessee State University James H.
Quillen College of Medicine to provide a full range of oncology services
all within one facility.
A major feature of the ETSU Cancer Center is the clinical trials
program in cancer prevention
and treatment.
Clinical trials are studies designed to identify better ways of preventing and
treating cancer, as well as treating the potential side effects of cancer
therapy.
The ETSU Cancer Center is an affiliate of the Cancer Trials Support Unit (CTSU) and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG). CTSU and GOG are networks of researchers, physicians,
and health care professionals. CTSU, GOG, and the National
Cancer Institute (NCI) fund all clinical trials at the ETSU Cancer Center.
